My First Gobbler

Postby VaRedDirt » May 3rd, 2012, 10:36 am

Although I had hunted Turkey many years ago, unsuccessful, this is my first Gobbler. It was my second hunt of the season. I had one sneak up behind me in the field on the other side of the separating trees I was in and he few off for whatever reason, then within 10 mins of more calling, I heard one gobbling and coming up the field from the right. The next thing I know he is behind me at the same wood/field fence line. As I was trying to decide what to do, I catch movement to my left... a big gobbler coming down in front of me from the left... straight for my decoys. Needless to say... I got him. What fun that was!! Can't wait to get back out there!! 21lbs, 12" beard, and 1" spurrs.

Agree with you Scott.....It is pretty much anywhere...to give a reference...out of 60 people in our Turkey Contest at another site....no one actually entered a 12" beard in the Longest Beard Contest....11 13/16" took it

Out of 165 people in another contest last year a 12" beard won it

So it really is a feat and our friend here should be very proud

Very nice congratulation to you!!! I been hunting turkeys in Iowa for now 25 years, and the hunts i remember the most are the first bird i shot, took me 3 years to bag him, and my two daughters first birds. You'll remember this hunt for years to come!!! congrats again!!!

Now that's a beard! Ditto on the "lasting memory" the other guys discussed. I can still vividly remember my first successful hunt :D
