I couldn't get out on Iowa's opening day and I had committed to guiding a friend on day two. He missed...several times. Ughh!
 
Anyway, day three was all mine and I was able to make the best of it. I hooked up with this gobbler an hour after sunrise. he pulled in a whole flock with him, but I did not take much time to watch him. After seeing those misses the day before, I was in no mood to play around. He was in half strut at 8 yds. when I let him have it.
 
2 yr. old. 24 lbs., 10" beard, and .75" spurs.

Congrats JPH! Your bird is identical to the one I shot last year. I have to wait 12 more days until I can hunt her in WI. Keep posting your pics on here. They're great.

Awesome, awesome morning!

I had this old boy roosted last night and was able to set up within 100 yards of him before dawn. But this hunt was anything but a slam dunk. He pitched down late, then made a huge circle around me. I worked him for an hour and was able to watch him strut and gobble in the field for a solid fifteen minutes. When he did commit, it was with a lot of suspicion. A little further shot than I like, but a clean kill.

24 lbs., 11.5" beard and 1.5" spurs!

He will hang.  Those are some sharp spurs.  Congrats on a great hunt.
