A great hatch & survival has been good.

I have have been working with a young man who's a graduate student at SIU and has been monitoring the hatch and survival rates of poults for the last 3 years. He's reported that this years hatch was a very good one and that the survival rate has been excellent.

That bodes well for a good fall and spring turkey season here in Southern Illinois.

The fall season is just over a month and a half away and I can hardly wait to get back into the woods.

It's the same here in NH, Clark.
I have seen hens with many, many poults. The poults range in size from the size of small chickens, to ones that are 3/4 the size of their mommas, all in the same flock.
I don't know very much about the breeding cycles, but it looks to me that some hens laid successful 2nd clutches!
We had the perfect spring for here. Warm and dry.
I agree. This bodes very well for this fall and for many springs to come!
