OCELLATED TURKEY MOUNT

Here is my nearly completed Ocellated turkey mount. I did a lot of research thanks to Lovett Williams book "The Ocellated Turkey in the Land of the Maya" and his DVD "Meet the Ocellated Turkey" to come up with this pose. This bird is the New Atypical World Record so I wanted a unique pose. The bird is going into what I call a singing tiptoe strut.

I also suggest anyone interested in hunting these birds read the aforementioned dvd and book a few times prior to going I learned a lot from them each time I read them and watched them.

Great mount. What makes him atypical....does he have multiple spurs?

The reason he is Atypical is he has five spurs. Getting one with five spurs was pure luck it is almost impossible to really get a good look at their spurs before you shoot this one was in the way when I shot. Trust me if it had 1/4 inch spurs I would have shot I may have just gone with a more typical mount and not put as much research into what pose I was going to use.

I think that his head is "unique", compared to the other 5 species

over time I have grown to like it besides it's hard to argue with mother nature.

very, very "unique" indeed....and yes, one cannot mess w/ mother nature, aren't the heads on the females the same color ?, the " other " turkeys heads turn brilliant red, white and blue when they trying to attract females [ excited ] and at various other times, was wondering if the occellated has similar head color change during the mating season.....congrats on your beautiful bird
