Turkey Dogs and Breeders

A friend of mine up North is thinking about getting a turkey dog. He ain't on the internet....and he asked me to help him out.

What do you guys think is the best breed of dog suited for turkey hunting?

Are there any breeders you guys would recommend looking at ?...and are there any I should stay away from ?

They say that John Bryne has been at it a long time.
Maybe you should consider contacting him or someone that has hunted his stock.

I just walked through the door with a 8wk old Brittnay female that I'm goin to try to use as a turkey dog.The breeder I got him from is extremely knowledable and has bred Brittnays for 20 yrs.If you would like anymore info feel free to P.M. me and I'll help all I can. He has 5 more litter mates to mine plus a litter that is 5wks old. I don't know where you are from but this man is in Va.

Pete Clare of Turkey Trot Acres in NY would have some leads although he is a Bryne dog man himself.

My advice to people wanting a hunting dog is to locate and buy a trained or mostly trained dog.  If you have no one to help and have no experience it usually works out best for you and the dog.  Figure it this way if you start out with a pup and it takes a year or 2 to find out he isn't going to work you are out all the time and money.  A trained dog can train you too.  Many times breeders / trainers end up with extra dogs that don't meet their standards for breeding and will let them go.  Good luck which ever way you choose to go.

anyone training a pup sould get the book gun dog by richard wolters ....it worked for me.....at 8 wks old you should begin training

hey tater..... its magnano....and i dont breed my dogs do...i dont plan  having any soon.... so dont bother[:)].....my next  litter will be my last and their all taken...i only have one female...tdh
