WHAT'S YOUR IDEA ?

What would you consider to be optimum conditions for a fall hunt ? Dry or wet ? Leaves on the trees or on the ground? Breezy or calm. Sunny or overcast ? Open timber or scrubby thickets ? Temperature ?

Personally I like an overcast day and wet leaves. I can really sneak around when the leaves are wet. On the other hand when the leaves are dry but windy out I take advantage of the wind. I walk only when the wind blows and call between wind gusts. I also like when the leaves are on the trees. When i'm walking into my hunting area the birds can't see me too easy. I've set up already and had birds come off the roost not too far away from where I was sitting. I like the temps to be in the 40's to 50's because I do alot of hiking this time of year.

I agree light snow on the ground provides the right contrast to see movement.  But I will take what is given just to be in the turkey woods doing what I enjoy....turkey hunting!

Damp, calm, about half the leaves still up, overcast and right around 50 degrees. Imo, that's as prefect as you can get.
Damp and calm helps the dogs work plus you can hear 'em calling.
Some leaves still up allows you a little more flexibility in sneaking around.
I just like overcast conditions while hunting, no glare or sun in eyes.
50 is a good temp. You can hustle around a bit without working up too bad of a sweat but can sit forever if need be. My .02.

As long as I can get in the woods, it doesn't really make much difference to me but...

I guess the perfect conditions would include a lack of wind, cool enough to have the mosquitoes and most snakes gone, leaves on the ground that the turkeys would crunch as they come to my calls and good friends with me to enjoy the hunt.

This is a good topic, guys! I am new at the fall hunting, but I too like the the weather to be a bit overcast no wind and cool enough not to work up a sweat! I cant wait to chase the birds this fall, no matter what the conditions!
