It's hard to believe it is that close, and that the summer is nearly gone . The Dogwoods , Sassafrass, Cottonwoods and more are turning their colors .
I have been out the past two weekends just listening to / for the birds . Got some locations pegged and recorded and hope to have more before season . I want to get out into the timber and sneak around for some ''UP CLOSE'' observations .
The '42 Winchester makes a rattlin' sound when I walk past the gun rack ,,,,it ain't been in the woods in nearly 30 years . I think she's amite anxious too.
Every evening I run some calls and usually call in the same hen [:D], which doesn't  call back much ,,,usually just a casts me a glance like a spring hen being challenged by a jenny.[:@]

Found lots of good sign this morning , though I didn't hear any.
 
Still haven't found the gobblers either. But when it cools off a little more I'll get back in the secluded hollers where they have always been .
