First Turkey!

Postby FireFly908 » August 29th, 2009, 4:07 pm

I just turned 62 and hunted turkey for the first time at hunting anything this past spring. My daughter and son-in-law purchased some land and it has Turkey on it. I asked them if I could go along with them, and they ended up buying me a permit for Christmas. I purchased what I needed and did a lot of research until the start of the spring season.
I was hunting with a coworker in May at his place and he got a Jake. While he was cleaning it, I went back out and spent 1 1/2 hours calling to three groups of gobblers. Finally, one of the groups came in with three gobblers in it. I got this 19 pound gobbler with a 10 inch beard and just under 1 inch spurs. I had a chance at a double, but I was so excited that I just ran out of the blind and sent the other two gobblers to the hills. Oh well, I'll live with it! [;)]
Here's the gobbler I got: ( I hope it shows up)

YES, I sure will. In Nebraska, our fall season is from September 15th to the end of the year. Also, there are unlimited permits that a person can purchase.
I also realize how lucky I am in that there are a lot more turkeys available and less hunters than when most of everybody on this forum started hunting. And, I also have private land to hunt on, so of course it's easier to get birds.
