I came back to hunting 4 years ago after a 17 year hiatus. I took up bowhunting 2 years ago. I have been hunting deer on my neighbors 33 acres. Last spring I tried spring gobbler hunting, as there is a small flock that has been in the area. This year I left my trailcameras out all year and kept track of the birds' movements.
Monday April 30 I didn't get in my blind till about 9:30.I barely got in the blind after setting my decoys when gobbling strarted behind me within 100 yards.I gobbled 4 seperate times with the birds getting closer all the time. I then clucked a few times on my diaphram and 3 gobblers passed by the side of the blind at 10 feet. When they got to the decoys , about 25 feet away, I had to wait till the one stopped strutting and they all turned away from me to draw my bow. I nailed the closest tom and he only made it 20 yards till he dropped. Unbelievable, I had only been in the woods 15 minutes till my first gobbler was on the ground.
He was 20lbs. with a 9in. beard and 1in. spurs. I think I'm hooked !!!
The picture showing the tom in front of the blind was taken by a trailcam. unfortuneatly it the shot was not on the pictures.
