Shot the 835 today

I took my 835 out today to pattern it. I started out with High Brass #6's at 20 yards to see where the pattern was going. It shot high to the left so I adjusted the sight that came with it. I wasn't too sure it would work too well...it didn't. I don't like the sight that's on it, so i'm going to get the Tru Glo Pro Magnum Gobble-Dot that way I can adjust the windage and elevation. I did try some 3" Federal Premium #6's but it was still shooting to the left. So back to the drawing board. [:D]

So what choke you using?  Are those the old 3" Fed Premium 2oz loads, Pre Flight Control wad?  If so, the Mossberg Flush Full choke works really well with that shell in my 835.  That choke is marked on it's side "Full-2&BB Steel-all Lead".  The Exit diameter is (0.710").
 
Found an old target and was shot with the 3" Fed Prem 2oz #6's w/ 835 and a Clearview Product ported turkey choke (0.718") @ 40yds.

Get your sights figured out them pattern.  I put a Trijicon Reflex II on mine.....best thing I did for that gun!

Those were the old Federal Premium #6's but not the Flite Control Wads. I have the ported barrel and choke tube. I read somewhere the Flite Control Wads won't work out of the ported barrels or chokes. I have the Gobbler Extreme Choke tube on mine with a .670 exit diameter.

Yes I really like those old Fed Prem.  I still savior them in what's left in my Fed Prem Arsenal.  My 835 barrel is not ported and is 24".  In truth my 835 is like 17 yrs old.  AS for the Fed FC wads, they will work if you use the correct choke. Can't comment on the ported barrel.  Mine will shoot extremely well with the Mossberg Full.  The Pb FC loads hate ported chokes.  However, I've gotten great patterns with the Fed HW loads with my CV choke and it's ported.  Only conclusion I have is the Pb FC wad is 0.027" thick and the HW FC wad is 0.037" thick.  The HW being thicker is not affect by the ports from my experience.

I've been using Federal Premiums in my Mossberg 500 for about 10 years now and they'll kill a turkey out to 40 yards and then some. I still have 2 boxes left with the 2 oz. of 6 shot copper plated bb's. I have 4 boxes of the Federal Mag Shoks in 3 in. 2 oz. of 6 shot. They ought to last me awhile. [:D]

Don't believe it. At least it hasn't been the case for me.   I did not notice a huge difference when the wad changed, and the change was for the better.  Both my choke tube and the barrel were ported on my Mossberg 500.  This year, I'm switching chokes, but it's so my son will have the ported choke tube.

But then again, remember that all shotgun/choke/load info is highly individual. Seemingly identical gear can function with radically different results.

trkynut, if you will search some threads from last year I believe that the shooting high and left problem on the 835 was identified on here....there was a problem with last year with the rear sights, Clark from allaboutshooting can tell you how to correct it if not.
