835 definetly.  870 is a good gun, but the 835 is a turkey killing machine.  Ive never had ANY problems with my 835 nor have i ever heard that they have safeties breaking.  And they are far from cheap/cheap feeling.  Get an 835.

  You are definetly right man. 835's are the best turkey gun there is. my dad regularly shots turkeys in the head with it at 60yds and more! with usually 20 or more BB's in the head. Why do you think i made my login name what it is?[:D]

I have been in the debate with myself for a while wether or not i should keep my mossberg 500 or go out and invest in the 835? My 500 patterns well out to about 35-40 yards and hasnt failed me yet, would i really see much of a performance differance?

I was just wandering from people with experience with both what is the best choice ? I don't care if one kicks more I will add a mercury tube to the stock anyway, lets talk performance. lets say both have 26" barrels and are 3.5" guns, is Mossbergs backbored barrel enough to matter? Wally world has the 870 for 327 and the 835 for 309, so price doesn't come into play. Well I guess thats really my question "backbored or not? "

I have been using Mossbergs for over 30 years. I used a Remington once and didn't like how the safety was behind the trigger. I like the safety on top like Mossberg has and Mossbergs fit me better too. When I bring the gun up it's right there where I want it, every time.

The 835 is heavier than the 870 so weight-wise the Remington feels comfortable if you're gonna' hold the sites on target for an extended period of time but.....
 
....The thumbhole grip on my 835 makes for a more natural hand position, moreso than a pistol grip in my opinion.  And it does have a pretty good kick, but I ain't scared.  .....I've shot lots bigger and badder than that.  The first time I fired a 76mm the recoil managed to knock my hand off the trigger, but I continued to shoot it over the years.  (Standing by for inquiries [;)])
 
 I actually like the convenient location of the Remington safeties.

You would see a much better pattern performance from the 835 than the 500. We shoot ours with winchester 3 1/2 inch, #6shot, 2 1/4 oz, XX loads and it has a really tight pattern. You can shoot turkeys at unbelievable distances!
It would be a good choice to invest in one.(Unless your afraid you couldnt handle the power[;)]

Buy the one that fits you the best.
 
Put the 2 guns on the counter and close your eyes - have the clerk hand you one, mount to your shoulder, decide how it feels, and open your eyes. Then repeat, and you'll probably go home with the remington............. LOL, nah I ain't prejudice.
