I have always thought that getting a good pattern out to 40yds was a mixture of choke choice and shot selection. Most of that sounded like fancy trinkets.

Thanks Steve!
I actually started my apprenticeship as a stocker and that's the one thing I really miss about gunsmithing is the stocks! Since the advent of copy pantographs, its tough to match the quality and speed they can duplicate an original with. I will someday pull it out and get it kicked back into shape. Until then, I will stay with the "new-fangled" 1300 with fiber optics. Its working good so far.....

do you really need all that to shoot 40 yards?

Who said anything about 40 yards?

35 yards? looks to me like you wasted a bunch of money.... not to mention where you stated "if hes within 60 yards hes mine" over on the "hung up gobbler" thread...c'mon on dood be consistent...which is it 35 or 60?

That is a target that was left over from patterning my daughter's 11-87 20 gauge at 35 yards.  I had a couple of the Nitro shells in my range box so I popped the last target with my shotgun using a Nitro with #4 Hevi-Shot.

Let's see your 35 yard target turkey killer.  If you can keep everything that close, and decapitate a turkey at 35 yards my hat is off to you.

At 60 yards, he's mine.

Yes, let's talk about ethics.  If I can place a killing pattern, consistently, on a turkey target at 60 yards, what makes shooting at one at that distance unethical?

These boards are full of stories of guys popping turkeys at 50, 55 yards with regular ammo and 12 gauge shotguns (even some 20 gauge shotguns) because they misjudged the distance.  I'm using a 10 gauge and 2.5 oz of Hevi-Shot.

Ethics pertains to right and wrong conduct; what's wrong with shooting a turkey at 60 yard if I can consistently kill one at that range?
