Poll: No Shooting Beyond 40 Yards

Forty yards. That's the farthest most poll takers at turkeyandturkeyhunting.com will shoot.

What about you? How would have answered this question?

I've layed out 2 gobblers at 40 yds this year and I'm sure I could go as far as 50 yds but I just like to be cautious.

I don't take shot past what I presume to be 40 yards. I let a old field turkey walk off this spring after he only worked as close as what I guessed to be 45 to 50 yards. I did manage to call him back to 20' after I let him walk but a tree limb prevented me from taking the shot. After all was said and done it turned out he was closer to 35 to 40 yards away the first time. I would much rather error on the side of caution and let him walk off to be hunted another day than to cripple or wound a bird and not recover him.

40 is the limit .
30 is preferred as a long shot .
25 and less is sweet .
15 and less is an educational experience i crave and if he spooks , well , I might swing on his departing head ,,,maybe .

Guess I have trouble judging distance. Most of the birds I have killed have turned out to be 40+. Started out with heavyshot and have progressed to winchester supreme elite. It's one bad load!!!

40 is the farthest I've patterned my gun.  I'm firing with a fixed choke using Winchester Supremes and that was the end of one gobbler this season at 40.
