Mossberg 500 Load Advice Wanted

Postby hunter177 » January 30th, 2014, 6:57 pm

I just got a Mossberg 500 Turkey model 12 gauge. It came with the factory XX-Full turkey choke. I know you're supposed to try a bunch of load/choke combinations but it's just not financially possible right now. Has anyone had any experience with a 500 and Winchester shells in general? I bought 2 boxes of the Winchester DoubleX, 3", 1125 fps, 2 oz. of #5 shot. Has anyone had experience with the DoubleX loads. Any advice you could give would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I have the mossberg 935 turkey gun and use the winchester loads, 3 inch #5's. Before the 935 I had the 500 and used the same loads. No problem with either gun. Have good pattern with them and confident out to 40 yds.

A friend of mine uses what you are using hunter177. He has killed many birds with it. It should hold a good pattern for you up to 40 yards.
Is it turkey season yet?
