quite a few 20ga. shooters here

so,i'm hoping to get an answer on this question..i have a mossberg accu-choke 20guage and i have a full choke tube ,and an x-tra full choke tube for the gun..how tight of choke does everyone use in their 20 ga. and what brand.. i want to shoot hevi-shot but the choke made for lead can't be used ..any suggestions

I have a mossberg 500 20ga. that was the first gun I ever got when I started turkey hunting 8 years ago. I have two factory chokes with the gun, full and modified. I'm not quite sure what the diameter of the full choke is, I would say somewhere in the neighborhood of .590, but I have killed a few jakes with that choke shooting Winchester 3" #5 out to about 25 yards. I then bought a Cabelas Choke Tube for Hevi-Shot (Super Full .575) and used Hevi-13 3" 1-1/4 oz. #5 with good results. I never tried the #6 but I would love to just to see if there's much difference between the two. With that setup I felt comfortable shooting a turkey out to 30 yards, 35 is the absolute max. I can't remember the numbers but I think at 30 yards I was still getting 15-20 pellets in the head and neck area.

I have a new 12 ga. that I will be using this year but if I'm lucky enough to harvest a gobbler with it, I may take the ol' mossy out and try to get my second bird with that one!

I shoot the Fed. mag-shok 5's though my 20ga. and am getting a good pattern with an Undertaker .570 non ported choke. Your x-full choke should work fine with those shells.

I use a Mossberg® Mdl 500C 20ga w/a 26" barrel I would suggest two different chokes from Hunter Specialities®.....................

• #00666 Undertaker® .572" for all lead loads
• #00653 Undertaker® .582" for all HTL loads, i.e. Hevi•Shot®

Stay away from a ported turkey choke if at all possible.

I have a Remington 870 20ga with a 21" barrel. Shooting the Federal Heavyweight 3" 1 1/2oz. #7's through a hastings .562 choke. In a 10" circle at 40yds, I got in the 170's with this setup.
