Thanks sooner, any info is good info when your looking at getting into something for a hobby.   I appreciate all the feedback and hope to post some results in the near future.  I will google it and see what comes up.  Thanks again and didn't mean to hijack the thread at all.  Hope any tips you come accross you share with us all here.

Try the "Callmakers Workbench" and go from there

well lookign at several web pages making a call looks pretty interesting. I got a friend who owns his own custom cabinet shop so wood shouldn't be a big issue, he works with all the woods mentioned. May just have to give it a try.
