funny story

Postby donutdavid » April 8th, 2008, 6:43 am

The first time I turkey hunted (when I had no idea what I was doing), I'm pretty sure I called in a flock of sandhill cranes.
Seriously, when I was done hunting I stood up on a field edge and there were 40 sandhills about 30 steps away from me.

It's interesting how different species respond to calling. One year, while snow goose hunting in South Dakota, our best call was a Canada goose honk. I've also seen both turkeys and deer investigate goose calling. In Florida this year, a fellow hunter called in a bobcat that was looking for a turkey meal.

Last year while calling turkeys I had a yote come in to sniff my decoy, needless to say, dead yote.

Yeah, I've yelped in bobcats in Florida, and coyotes in Wisconsin and Alabama. Hope I never have the misfortune of luring in a mountain lion!

I kinda have a problem shooting something that is only out trying to make a living, like a bobcat or coyote.  However I believe that anything running all over the place with the sole goal of having promiscuous sex with total strangers deserves to be shot.

A friend of mine was calling one day when a coyote came in and left so fast and hit his decoy he never had a chance to raise his gun
