To all who have replied and viewed - Thanks,
Gobbleking57 - your call is a beauty, and your sound post is impressive.
I've spent the last 5 weeks with mine between my lips whenever I'm in the truck by myself.
My kids found them and hid them on me. So until I got them back, I tortured them by sucking on Bic pen tubes, a small rubber hose, plastic tubing, and I even rolled up a scrap of paper real tight and can get yelps out of that!
(By the way, if you are practicing with the wingbone - don't forget to put a mouth call in your mouth too - at first that gave me a little difficulty - but no worries now!)
The family finally gave in and gave them back. They have acused me of being insane and are counting the days until I'm in the woods!
I'm learning to finesse the call - soft tree yelps, clucks, and purrs, but the call really shines on cutts and yelps. The volume is incredible. I believe they will be great locators.
I really enjoy using the call. The hardest thing for me will be NOT USING IT TOO MUCH. In the past I may have been guilty of that fau-pa, having had birds hang up out of range.
I think form the banter in the forum/message board on calls and calling so far this year, many of us are makin' calls.
Has anybody seen plans to build a slot or trough slate call?
I made a couple of pot calls last year and they worked great and I'd like to try something new.
