How do you hold your Box call?

Postby roughrider123 » April 28th, 2010, 2:37 pm

Curious as to how most of the guys hold their boxes, vertical, horizontal, tail up or down. I use mine horizontally pulling the tail to me. Recently I have seen people hold vertically tail up pushing away on Tv and it seems more rich as I try that method. I have more volume control horizontally though.

I hold it sideways at an angle and push the striker down away from me.

For me, the Beauty of playing with a box call is figuring out it's personality. The way that I play a box call all depends on how the box call wants to be played. Finding the sweet spot is the first thing that I do. In addition to finding the sweet spot on the sides of the box, I also play around with using my fingers on the lower section of the sides, instead of just holding the bottom of the call, let your hand wrap around it some. In most cases applying pressure to the sides of a box call will deaden the sound.

I agree with Rich, I do the same. You have to find out how the box wants to play. My hunting buddy play his upside down, holding the paddle still and moving the box. It's what ever works the best for you?
