Ceramic Surface pot calls

Postby Crappiepro » December 17th, 2010, 1:48 pm

I was wanting to add a ceramic surfaced pot call to my bag of tricks. Whats everyone's thoughts. Are they a good sounding? Can you make alot of the different sounds with that surface? Any likes or dis-likes. I was told they dont have to be conditioned, is this true. Whats everyone think?  Crappiepro

They play just about as easy and alot like a slate call, and you condition them the same way, with fine sandpaper or scratch pad. The ones I've heard and played sounded good.

So what would be the advantages of having the ceramic. It sounds like its almost the same as slate.

It seems to give you a tone somewhere between a slate and an aluminum, but that depends on the builder. The biggest advantage is that they play wet.

That was going to be my next question( Playing Wet) So there is advantage and would be worth gettin one. I know 2 years ago I had the dew or water drop from somewhere hit the surface on the slate call I was using and it went flat. That ol slate drank that water right up. I just stuck it back in the pouch and used mouth calls the rest of the morning.

I have made several this year, the tonal quality is like Scott said, between slate and glass/aluminum. Alot of guys are ordering two siders, ceramic over slate and seemed to be very pleased
