Presentation Gibson

Postby WillowRidgeCalls » August 19th, 2011, 12:13 pm

I've been doing a few Gibson's, this one is a mahogany box with blk locust lid, with a hard maple soundboard built in it . In doing some research, I found out the Henry Gibson had a soundboard built into the bottom of his own hunting call like a violin has, so I thought I'd try it in this one. It helped a lot in this soft wooded call so it should open the door up to be able to use the softer woods like butternut, poplar, cedar, mahogany, limba, for these Gibson's. This call will probably go to our nwtf banquet, unless somebody talks me out of it :) I used the old style burning on this call, it has the two turkeys on one side and mushrooms on the other ( I'll see if I can figure out how to post more that one pick per post, right now the new forum won't let us ? )
Thanks for looking, Scott

Thanks Scott, it has been interesting learning new ways to do these old style calls, and a lot of fun. It was interesting to find out that Henry had a soundboard built into the bottom of his call and was fun finding out how much differance it would make in the sound of a call. I'm curious to find out if his call would be considered a hollow bodied call, like the hollow bodied calls that are made today?
I've had a few guys ask me what I mean when I say OLD STYLE wood burning? When I do a call with old style burning I don't use a wood burner. I use an assortment of different size nails that I heat up and use a needle nose pliers to handle them and do the burning until the nail cools down enough so it won't burn, then I heat it back up and keep going.
