After I've got it cut out. I take it to the belt sander, and with a course grit belt in it, I sand it down to the pattern lines, that is why you put your pattern lines on both side, so when you sand it you can keep it level, by slowly sanding off the extra wood. Once you got it sanded down to your lines, you can rock it end to end and feel if you have any high spots in your crown. If you do you can sand it a bit more, watch the end of your call, your sanding line should be level across if your rails are sanded to the same height. Then I'll put a finer grit belt on and finish sanding it to smooth out any sanding blemishes in the rails from the course grit belt. Then I clean up the sides of the call with the finer grit belt to remove any saw blade marks, and smooth it out.
