picking a spot

Postby gobblerINfecttion » March 23rd, 2011, 4:39 pm

hey fellow hoosier!i'm new to the site but not new to the game.one good way to help find potential spots in your area is to cruise waterways either by canoe or on foot.combine the other strategies you've read,i.e.gobbling in a.m. scratching, tracks, etc. the idea is to cover un-scouted area at a good pace for orienting and at the same time being in an area where birds frequent and soil is always likely to leave tracks from their travel. use discovered sign at the waters edge as a starting point, then branch out in search of roost sites, open wood flats, etc.a topo map can really help to see areas not immediately visible from the creek/river that are likely spots too.
