i like the beard in the shotgun shell how do you think you get it to stay i know it is glued in but to what ? just the top of the shell or is there something else in there?????

I cut the plastic off and save the brass.  Next, I take a hot glue gun and fill it in all around the top of the beard.  If you need a pic, let me know.

thanks jed ill try the hot glu!!! but i thing ill trim half the shell casing off instead of all of it.. i am in the process of staining my plaque so i will post the final product when it is complete!!!

just finished this for a customer the guy really did a number on skinning the bird, this was the best i could do.

I used the Spur Trophy Mount Kit from King outdoors to do mine.  Displays the fan, beard and spurs nicely.  It was the first one I did myself and I thought it came out really well.  I bought mine from Cabelas.com.  You can view it there.  Hope this helps.

I really liked what Everdayhunter had shown with the fan and artwork on the plaque.
 
I have some mounted birds but mostly I cape the bird from the head down to the tail, stretch it out, and borax it to cure. They make pretty good displays and you can learn to cape em and cure them pretty easily.
